Description
Aberlour Distillery is in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the Benrinnes mountains and in the village of Aberlour itself.
It has a long history that dates back to 1826, when Peter Weir and James Gordon first began distilling at the site.
It really began to take off in 1879 when James Fleming founded the distillery that remains on the site today. Aberlour changed hands a number of times throughout its life but eventually came to rest in the capable hands of Chivas Brothers.
They have an impressive core range, which includes many award winning drams. One such dram is their 18 years Old
This expression has been matured in Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks and bears the best of both these worlds.
The nose opens with citrus fruits and caramel. it is moist and soft, with lots of oranges and nectarines appearing.
These are juicy and rich and go perfectly with the caramel and toffee flavours that come through.
The caramel is especially sweet and has a slightly butterscotch note to it. These flavours are brought together by a lovely, earthy honeyed flavour that marries everything together.
