JW Private Collection ’17 Bottling Note
Here’s the 2017 edition from the John Walker & Sons Private Collection, titled Mastery of Oak. For this release, the team at Johnnie Walker have using a combination of three vattings – the first is a blend of malt and grain whiskies aged mostly in first-fill American oak, the second is a blend of Highland and Speyside single malts from refill casks, and the third is a blend of whiskies from a range of experimental casks (which features different char profiles, housed different drinks beforehand and some had even been “salt cured”!).
A release of 5,588 bottles.
Tasting Note
Nose: Honey’d orchard fruit, burnt cinnamon, a burst of pineapple and creamy vanilla.
Palate: Warming oak right from the get-go, joined by juicy raisins and sultanas. A touch of rum spice develops later on, along with chocolate-y caramel.
Finish: Christmas-y spices and a hint of floral sweetness.
